On Wednesday 6th August, 16 of our students competed in the Bay Of Plenty Junior Badminton Championships. These students qualified for this tournament by competing well at the EBOP championships held earlier this year.
We had one year 9 & 10 boys team qualify, two year 9 & 10 girl’s teams and one year 7 & 8 girls’ team. These students all developed greatly over the badminton season and played some of their best Badminton at the BOP champs which was very pleasing to see.
Yr 7 & 8 Girls
Princess Elliott Aliciah Rangiaho
Jaymee Karekare Alexaan-Kelly Puutu-Dredge
This team did extremely well coming second in the entire BOP, coming home with silver medals. An excellent result for such talented girls.
Yr 9 & 10 Boys
Ricky Ion Hoani Rangitakaiwaho
Levi Te Riini Rayden Kingi
These boys played some excellent badminton. Coming up against some experienced players they continued to play their best Badminton possible which was pleasing. These boys ended up in fourth place (after a count back) in Division Two.
Yr 9 & 10 Girls
Diamond Gemmell Destiny Daly
Shemeen Te Riini Sherraijka Bruintjes
These girls did extremely well at the EBOP competition and managed to qualify in Division One for the BOP champs. Like the boys, these girls were facing teams who belonged to Badminton clubs and were talented experienced players. These girls played some wonderful Badminton, ending up 4th in Division One, an excellent result for our school.
Yr 9 & 10 Girls
Acacia McMillan Jimmie-Leigh Curry
Hayes Mio-Mihaere Taylor van Gulick
Narrowly missing out on qualifying for Division One, this team was extremely competitive in Division Two at the BOP Champs. These girls played excellent Badminton and came away in second place, also bringing home silver medals.
These students were excellent ambassadors for Tarawera High School. They were disciplined, hard-working and competitive. Well done to all of these students.
